Grief Tending Session and Ceremony September 30, 2025
We will gather where the land opens up to the Ocean, near Tomales Bay. We will create a community space under protection of trees and shrubs at the edge of the forest for the first session. Our first session will be an in person version of the sessions we have been having on zoom since last Fall.
After lunch, in our second half, we gather again for a community grief ritual where Grandfather Sky meets Grandmother Ocean. Vicki and the team will guide the participant through a safe and inclusive process to express the emotions we have been carrying with us, that make our burdens heavy. We will follow time honored processes for healing, as we process and allow to dissolve our heavy emotional burdens. The sun will be moving overhead toward its setting in the west, in the same direction the tide will be receding, as if to aid in carrying our dissolving emotions away.
As usual our sessions will be guided by the rhythm you have come to know from our work in the zoom session. You will be welcomed by mantras, soothed by poems and songs, given a chance to tell some of your story, express some of your emotions. You are also welcome to join us if this is your first grief tending session. All of our processes are simple, and we are always happy to help everyone feel included.
The second session, at the ocean, will follow the pattern of grief rituals in nature like those of Francis Weller, Llewellyn Vaughn Lee, Kaylee Asbo, and many others often inspired by Malidome and Sobonfu Some, who brought these traditions from Africa. The sessions will be empowered by Sanskrit, Psychology, Yoga and Sufi teachings that have been gathered over the decades of working in the psyche of people for the purpose of increasing consciousness and healing.
